Birthday Fun and a Jaunt Down Memory Lane!

This hop is all about birthdays since Carrie-Ann is celebrating hers. So for my contribution to the birthday bliss, I'd like to share my favorite birthday memory. The memory itself doesn't start out real well. The year I turned 20, I was in my second year of college. I was also in this art history class that had I paid more attention I would've been fine in. Yeah, I wasn't real interested in paying attention. Anyway, so I'm in the midst of this class and studying for a huge test when I got a phone call. My great grandfather had passed. I had no idea what to do. Go home? Take the test my mind wasn't on? My BF who is now my DH helped out. I made it to the glass, but I didn't pass the test. Bombed it like you wouldn't believe. But, I realized that I couldn't let the grief take over. We went to the calling hours--on my birthday--and through it all DH was right there. My favorite part, which it was a cruddy day, but my favorite part was the cake he'd made me. He didn't have any one particular color of frosting and he'd remembered I had a hippie streak a mile wide. The frosting was a swirl of every color and a little jagged. But it was the best cake ever. That's my memory.
