ALTOn “Show, Don’t Tell” (from my latest writing Q&A)

A screenshot that reads:"Show, Don't Tell" is another phrase that people toss around like it's something mystic, but it isn't. Showing means to describe and Telling means to summarize. Thus the phrase should be, "Try to Describe Rather than Summarize."Through this lens, we see that each half is a tool with a different purpose. Describing is good for letting the reader visualize what is happening. Description is what makes a fight scene feel like it has impact. Meanwhile, without Summary a story can feel bloated. Summary is great when you need to advance time or get characters from one place to another without boring the reader.ALT
