Post-Signing Reevaluation

Last weekend’s author-signing event went surprisingly well, but it was not devoid of lessons to be learned. I say “surprisingly well” only because of my standard introvert’s dis-ease when facing the public, plus the fact that this was my first signing event in nearly a decade. Andrea Congrats! Where was your signing? I just finished the Fallen Cloud saga this month (loved it!! I'm so happy I uncovered book 1 from my stash and decided to give it a go!) I borrowed from the library, and I was thrown off when I saw the "minimalist" cover for Beneath a Wounded Sky! I love hand-painted cover art that's intricate and tells a story, and I think a lot of other readers do, too. (I mean, I was totally drawn in by the cover art of The Year the Cloud Fell--Native Americans? DINOSAURS?! Steam punk technology? This is an alternative history I can get behind! Plus, it's such an impact statement to show people. I've used the book (series), and especially the very visual cover, to demonstrate to writers how you can have an off-the-wall concept and still achieve reader suspense of disbelief.

Kurt Giambastiani Hey there. The signing was in late September, and was my first in many years, but it did get me thinking about doing more.

I’m glad you found the FC Saga, especially Book 5, as it was never published in mass market format and had limited reach, mostly just to folks who read the first four. I am excited to see what the artist I’m working with comes up with as concepts for the new covers.

Thanks!
