What I Did on My Summer Vacation - 2022

Other than nearly slicing my thumb off Tuesday night (ugh, don't ask) all is well in the land of Lanyon.

Unlike last year, this summer has been both creative and productive and, better still, pretty much drama-free. I completed The Movie-Town Murders, Death at the Deep Dive, and Hide and Seek

The sibs and I are rehearsing and performing again--and batting around the idea of producing an eighth album.

I've got lots of audio coming, new translations, etc.

Currently, I'm working on Puzzle for Two (for Patreon) and Lament at Loon Landing (Secrets and Scrabble 6) with no hard ETA on either.

That's pretty much the update. I KNOW. THRILLING STUFF. :-D

My social media presence is pretty minimal right now. I guess I'm choosing to be present in real life as opposed to the virtual space where I spent the last twenty years? These last precious days of summer are being spent on swimming, gardening, experimenting with cocktails (hey, someone's gotta do it) playing with the pups, reading a little, writing a lot, and watching a fair bit of TV (I'm probably consuming more news than I should, but the midterms are coming and I want to brace myself). I got my first hair cut in three years and my first facial in six months.

We've had houseguests and family get-togethers. Life is returning to normal. This weekend we're getting our next booster shot.

The new normal.

You really can't ask for more than that. Yes, everything is different now. The pandemic years changed... everything. Changed me. But I'm happy and I'm more creative (and more productive) than I've been in years, so it's all good.

And what did you do on your summer vacation?

Melissa I didn't really have a vacation. I worked, read, watched tv, got a new job, went shopping for clothes and shoes and found i do indeed still hate shopping, but i finally got a new watch (2 actually), and am still waiting for my new laptop. Oh! I need to post this too, my newest niece was born, Amelia Rachel Lynn. She's cute. Haven't seen her in person yet. The birth was rough. But do plan to see her soon.

Congrats on the productivity this summer Josh!! Glad things are going well for you. ❤️

What a busy, happy and productive summer! Congratulations on the brand new niece. That's lovely news.

DKSDGM I didn't get an opportunity to vacation this summer either. Too many bills. I'm working to get on top off all these loans I had to take out to keep things floating. How ***** ****** am I that I paid off my student loans and I'm living off of ramen and drowning in other loans and bills while inflation... so yeah. That. God bless America. But I'm making progress on my loans and at some point I'll feel the relief. Meanwhile the weather is finally cooling off so soon I'll be able to go out hiking with the dog which in $$ effective fun when you don't have $$. Living in the desert the amount of outdoor time you can spend in the summer is super limited.

Ah. Yes. We live in the high desert and the temperatures this summer have been unreal. There have been entire weeks where it's been too hot to open up even at night. Where the lowest temperature toward dawn has been 88 degrees.

I'm sorry finances are so tight right now. I went through the student debt wringer after college, which is why I can't understand people who are outraged that Biden finally did something to help. At the time I incurred the debt, I was simply grateful I could finish my education. But after years of trying to pay off ever-compounding interest, it started to feel more like I had fallen for a scam.

Anyway, I did pay off the debt and I did eventually get better and better paying jobs (sadly, in the corporate world, not in education). I was able to buy my first house shortly before I met the SO.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel, but it probably won't be the government holding the lantern.
