Why do adults read young adult (YA) books?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve encountered this question, both online and in real-world social settings. Why would a grownup want to read about teenagers? What do adults find appealing about YA novels and stories?

Obviously, I can’t speak for every adult who reads these types of books. But I can speak for myself. And as an adult male who reads and writes YA books, I feel like I’m qualified to weigh in on the subject.
