Prompt Me Monthly: August

Each month, I will choose a picture to inspire me to write a paragraph. Some of my novels have even started this way!

August’s Prompt:When my dad died, my cousin, Nicky, took over as head of the squad. He also took it upon himself to look after me, despite the fact there is only three years between us. I think he made promises to Dad, and Nicky is loyal to a fault.
It was Nicky who taught me how to fight, how to use my powers, and how to sense a demon just from the smell in the air. I didn’t understand the risk he was taking in doing so. He always made light of training an underage squaddie, and told me I’d be accepted into the Eden Circle as soon as I came of age.
Now, I’m watching the only family I have in the whole world stand trial for breaking Circle Code, with every possibility of having his memory erased.
