SnippetIt was December 24th, 2051, the end of the year when the Dangerously Stupid People killed off most human and animal life through biowarfare. At the beginning of December, there were approximately 1200 survivors who had congregated at the University of Colorado campus in Boulder. Twelve days ago, the dozen survivors that remained were looking forward to decorating the campus as a symbol of faith and hope for the future; now only one of the CU Twelve remained.
Today’s to-do list for nineteen-year-old Saraswati Alfarsi included burying her best friend and decorating the foliage near the University Theatre building on the Norlin Quadrangle. Sara, who was trying to decide between a career in the sciences or medicine, had recorded most of the deaths in her ledger with clinical detachment. Now she couldn’t stop the tears from flowing as she noted the details of the most recent decedent.
