Access is key to a historian's work. Without access to the primary sources historians have no basis for their work.
It is uncanny that time separates these two portraits by the 19th century Filipino master, Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, and I am able to take selfies with both: Trinidad H. Pardo de Tavera [Left] and Pedro Paterno [Right]. The former in a private collection, the latter on the block at Leon Gallery on August 20. If only these portraits could talk!
