Penelope

Penelope, A Madcap Regency Romance by Anya Wylde, The Fairweather Sisters Series, Book 1

Madcap aptly describes this funny, enchanting Regency romp where Miss Penelope Winifred Rose Spebbington Fairweather is invited from the farm to have a season in London.

The Dowager Duchess of Blackthorne was a friend of Penelope’s mother Grace and promised to look after her in a final letter before Grace died. She is sponsoring her for a season but has her work cut out for her when the country bumpkin arrives with her goat.

Her daughter, Anne, who is in her third season and bored, finds Penelope entertaining but they soon become best friends. Her brother, Charles, the Duke of Blackthorne, wants her gone when he sees her dripping on his expensive carpet. She tugs on his ear, falls down his steps, chases her goat into his bedroom and causes chaos everywhere she goes.

Penelope doesn’t want to return home where her stepmother hates her and has plans for her to marry an old and ugly Lord Weevil. But the Duke hates her. He accuses her of faking a sprained ankle and trying to seduce him.

The dynamics between Penelope and Charles are perfectly balanced as neither wants to admit any feelings for each other. They have to join forces to help Anne and layers of problems need to be sorted out for the happily-ever-after ending.

If you like a spirited heroine and a reluctant-to-fall-in-love hero, this story will satisfy. The humor and fun-filled escapades take it beyond a simple romance to a belly-laugh adventure.
