I Am No Longer Bothered By Bella & Edward

So, this post is going to be a little different. Disclaimer: I am not a fan of the Love At First Sight trope.

I like to feel as if I earn my couple getting together. I need the angst. I need the will they, won’t they question mark. That is why while reading Twilight I was #teamjacob and, watching The Vampire Diaries #teamdamon. Spoiler alert, while the former didn’t go as I wanted, the latter definitely gave me everything I wanted. But, I’m starting to understand Bella and Edward’s relationship a little more.

This thought comes after watching a recent Youtube reactor watch the Twilight series for the first time. There will be nothing but spoilers from here on so leave if you haven’t watched and are planning to. Anywho, this reactor got very upset and grossed out when Jacob imprinted on Renesme. She even compared it to grooming. I just didn’t get that. I figure it is probably because I have been reading a lot of werewolf stories in the last two years (none are LAFS). Werewolf stories are all about soulmates. Having that one person that is made for you. And as I was getting ready to comment just that on the video, it got me to thinking. Bella and Edward are soulmates. I’m still not feeling the love at first sight angle. I wish one would have had to work hard to gain the other’s love, but they were soulmates. It was fate.

With that thought in mind, I am no longer bothered by them. However, I have read stories involving soulmates where they didn’t immediately want to be together and had to work up to that moment.

But, I’ll give them a pass.

Side note: I’ve never read or watched a story that made love at first sight intriguing. Have you?
