Eva’s Byte #378 – Lemons

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

Coined in 1915, this phrase attributed to Elbert Hubbard, is the lead-in I’ve chosen to go off on a tangent about lemons. While I don’t purchase lemons to make lemonade laced with sugar, I do like to flavor and garnish a glass of water with a pre-squeezed slice.

I’ve maintained this habit for years. However, lately it seems to be the norm for life to give me lousy lemons at the supermarket. It’s all I can do to scrounge through the fruit bin to come up with a few lemons that aren’t undersized, bruised, browning and/or shriveled.

Those sold in small quantities inside a net fare no better. Despite my ogling lemons through the mesh to determine a measure of decency, my examination falls short of expectation. When I arrive home to empty the net of its strategically placed contents, deception overrules.

Somehow, I manage to salvage enough lemon slices to see me through the week.

In the capacity of a writer, I’m putting the squeeze on Chapter 16 (981 words thus far) along my Contemporary work in progress. Par for the course of writing lit with grit, life has given my characters lemons to juggle.

*Whatever life doles out to us, may we keep it zesty.

My sincere appreciation for reading this far.
