Why Do They?
Just a little weird thing that niggles at me right now. I’ve noticed in some series (book, TV, video game) that you can tell when the writers are about to wrap things up. How do you know? Because everyone starts to pair off.
Sometimes characters end up in really strange relationships. The writers put characters together when they never had any interest in each other before. You know some of these relationships will never last. It’s especially jarring when the series has featured a love triangle and the object of affection finally made a choice. The person left out moves on quickly because the writers are determined that no one should be single at the end of the series.
I get that sex and romance are important in people’s lives. We’re all social beings, and these maneuverings can really keep the audience interested in the story. Still, it feels arbitrary. I get a similar feeling when I hear people talking about women’s lives being so empty and incomplete if they choose not to have kids. Some people seem to feel anxious even thinking that someone might live happily on their own.
Am I just weird?
