The warehouse district of Silver City . . .

"Halt!" Silver Torpedo yelled at the fleeing perps. The three hoods in their ratty clothes ignored our silver star-spangled hero and continued deeper into the maze of warehouses.

I can't lose them, Silver Torpedo thought. They have the Transforming Atmospheric Module. And if that should fall into the wrong hands . . . .

He pumped his toned legs harder, seemingly floating off the ground in his pursuit. The gap between hero and hoods was closing.

Torpedo couldn't see the stolen device in any of their hands. It wasn't big, about the size of a music box, so it could fit in their jacket pockets. He hoped they had the gadget on them. If they didn't, then this chase was pointless. The Module would already be in the wrong hands.

Torpedo rounded a corner, a few yards from his prey.

The hoods were gone.

"I couldn't have lost them," he said. There were no hiding places in the wide alley with steel warehouses looming on both sides. No open doors.

They couldn't have sneaked inside a warehouse, he thought. I was right behind them.

Something struck Silver Torpedo's jaw. Hard. But not hard enough to knock him down or back a step. Another shot to his rock-hard stomach.

But there was no one in sight!
