“Only Sylvia could have made me laugh at a moment like that…This was going to be okay. All of it. I took another deep breath and sank down on my stool, leaning against the thin strip of counter that ran along Connecticut Muffin’s window. Getting the worst part out of the way first was the only way to go.” —
RECONSTRUCTING AMELIA
This is exactly where Amelia and Sylvia sat in that conversation, on those stools, at that counter — it’s where I sat this morning. As I do most mornings as I delay (and delay) heading to work at @brooklynwriters.
I don’t know if “write what you know”
is always the way to go, but I will say there is something uniquely cool about the place you go for coffee every morning being the same place your characters do. I highly recommend it.
(Plus, they all know my order by heart and never, ever shame me for how much coffee I order which is honestly the most surefire way to my💗)
