CHOOSING NOT TO WORRY

Have you ever noticed when you pray for something like patience or faith, instead of just giving us those virtues, God puts us in situations that require us to use them?

Our sermon one Sunday dealt with worry. After half an hour of being inspired to entrust everything into God’s capable hands, I thought, I can do this! From now on, I’ll give all my cares and concerns to the Lord.

“Who of you by worrying can add
a single hour to your life?”

(Luke 12:25)

Two days later, the threat of severe weather hit our area. I was a half-hour away from home shopping at the time. Several in town were talking about the bad storm headed our way. One look at the radar confirmed it, as did the darkening sky to the west.

Instantly my thoughts turned to my husband who was alone in the middle of nowhere on a cab-less tractor, without a cell phone. So did I trust God with this? No. Instead, I rushed and worried–about getting home ahead of the storm to warn my husband, about safety on the roads, and safety for my sons at school and work.

As it turned out, my worries–as usual–were for nothing. The storm split around us and wasn’t as bad as expected. Once again, I realized how small my faith really is.

INSTEAD OF WORRY LIST

So, I decided to make a list of things I could do instead of worry. Here’s my top 10 picks.

Read Scripture
Pray
Sing praise songs
Call a friend
Listen to Christian music
Visit a shut-in
Ask someone to pray for the situation
Do something nice for someone
Exercise
Get out and enjoy God’s creation

When you’re tempted to worry, remember this Scripture:

What about you? What situations cause you to worry? I’d love to hear your feedback.

Barbara Keigher We know worry is not faith,
and yet,
it can be such a devastating sinful habit, for some people like me.
True it's not like stealing, or murder or something,
but it's kind of a slap in God's face..like saying:
"I don't really believe you can handle what's coming Lord, maybe you can for others, but not me.

And really, God may not make it always be a perfect outcome, but He will walk with us thru it, and sometime in the future, maybe eternity future, He will make it work out for our good.

Plus, I could never count the all times, when I worried, (like you did once), and instead,
it never turned out anywhere near as bad as I feared,
but often it turned out good!

Fear and worry are kind of the same side of a coin, they usually go together. How many times does God say in scripture:
Fear NOT!
I kind of think, that sounds suspiciously like a command...yikes!

So to not trust in the Creator, is a type of rebellion. But fear and worry can be so strong!
I have to ask myself sometimes, does God really love me?
Is He not a God who loves? Is He not a Father, and Savior?
Is He not infinite, eternal, all powerful, all knowing, filled with compassion and mercy?
Why then do I worry and fear?

I am getting a 'wee' bit better. I remember His word, and all the times in my life, He actually did miracles to save me from very bad things.
I know He did not have to save me from those scary incidents,
and He does not have to now or in the future.
Some of His greatest believers died terrible deaths ...
but He was with them to the end, and now they are forever with Him.
So Yup, I was truly blessed by your godly thoughtful words, Thank you again!
