I want to be serious for a moment and share something I posted on Facebook:
I received a check in today's mail for $3700 (from Liberty Mutual) because apparently I'd won a lottery or something. I have to admit I was excited. Who couldn't use almost 4 grand? I began to read the letter, and it said the $3700 would go toward covering the processing fee, which ran around $2200.
Ah, I thought it was too good to be true. So I'd deposit the check, they'd ask for the processing fee, which shouldn't be a problem, right? I mean they'd given me the money to cover it. Or had they?
I have no doubt as soon as I deposited it, they'd ask me to send them the $2200, and then, a few days down the road, the check would bounce and I'd be out over two thousand dollars.
So no, I won't be calling anyone and I won't be depositing that check. But damn... it looked real.
Please be aware and stay frosty!
