A very good gay male author friend of mine has been dealing with the attack of straight women writing gay fiction simply because he said he doesn't believe that straight women can capture the authenticity of gay culture the same way gay men can do it. And I agree with him. It's offensive to read and it can't be done. As a non-black writer, I'm smart enough to know I can't capture the black experience. So I don't write about it.
