Life Beyond Knowing – The Freedom of Stillness

Freedom is to be found just below the surface of ordinary life. It is always there staring us in the face. I refer to it as Stillness, but this is only because I can’t think of a better word. It is something the mind can’t grasp, but it is undeniably there. It appears far more real than ordinary life. I sometimes want to call it the void, but this void includes everything; it is everything. It is a Stillness that includes movement.

The more this Stillness is recognized, the more effortless and joyful life becomes. This freedom can only be found beyond knowing. It has nothing to do with beliefs. Years ago, I woke up one morning with the words ‘the knowing is not the knower’ following me from a dream. It is this imposer knower that needs to be stilled.

Ordinary life continues to happen even after the Stillness is recognized. It is just that ordinary life becomes less solid and more like a dream. It is like two dimmer switches, the brightness of the ordinary life gets turned down, and the glorious light of the stillness gets turned up. In the world but not of the world. It is truly wonderful.
