Gonna be AWKWARD if he wins. Which he should NOT.

A Benedict Cumberbatch acceptance speech referencing toxic masculinity would be apropos.

He won. Why aren’t they booing him? Asshole’s crying and making himself a victim because he’s a protector. Bullshit arrest him.

Exactly this. Benedict, whose win would have been fully deserved, would have talked about toxic masculinity and the problems it causes. Apparently Jada, who is a FIERCE, stunning woman, is going through alopecia. Chris Rock’s humour tends to be edgy but not outright cruel, so I sort of doubt he knew that. Regardless, there were a million other ways that Will could have handled that, starting with maybe asking Jada if she wanted him to do anything and/or how. Will apologized to the Academy but not Chris, he talked about shining light and love but didn’t openly acknowledge his own utter failure to do exactly that. His win sullies the award and sullies the women whose story he was supposed to be representing (and that alone is a whole other thing to unpack). I know the vote had already been decided, but I’m just saying that if my boy Benedict had won - or the class acts who are Denzel Washington or Javier Bardem, or the sweetheart who Andrew Garfield seems to be, this distasteful act wouldn’t have been compounded with an award. Ugh.
