Dads in science fiction

Biological fathers, desperate fathers, fathers on the run, fathers by choice or by duty. Good fathers and bad fathers. Protectors, but never mentors.

The father, in all its variations, is a figure that has been featured in many stories and often with the same themes. Most of the time it is treated badly (dads are familiar with this) but not always, not everywhere.

Science fiction, of course, has a hand in it, sending fathers to places and times far from ordinary life.
