This, That, and t’Other Things

Too much to do, too much to do.

Things are hopping, as my frogs told you down below.   I could be writing long posts here about a dozen things, but I am sure most of you would sooner I were writing fiction, producing films and television shows, editing anthologies.   Y’know.

But let me say a few quick words about matters various and sundry.

We have a new book coming out from Ten Speed in October: THE RISE OF THE DRAGON, an illustrated history of the Targaryen dynasty from Aegon the Conquerer to ...

Idril I think you should admit you will never finish the song of ice and fire saga.Lack of inspiration, two many side projects, who knows.......beeing honest with your fans would be much appreciated instead of this stalling tactic you show to the people who admired you for years.

Diane I completely agree. GRRM just doesn't seem to care whether he finishes the series that his fans are interested in. He just wants to do what he wants to do and doesn't give a hoot about the people who basically pay his salary.

Ricardo He is an author so if he wants to write what he wants to write let hem be!

Its hard if you not have any inspiration, i'm a webdesigner and sometimes i lose my inspiration and its hard to get that back!.

maybe its not the same but both are jobs that need much inspiration and as soon its lost it takes time to get it back.

Diana I think it's George's right to decide how he uses his time.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's contract bound to finish ASOIAF, so he can't just call it quits publicly.

As a fan, I would appreciate honesty, but I understand that there are more parties at play and the situation more complex.

Diane Aren't authors under contractual agreement to write books during a certain time period? Is he just freelance? Doesn't seem likely unless he gets a pass just because he happens to be GRRM.

He can be a freelancer its possible, why not?.
and maybe a few years ago they demanded you write books before a certain time. but these days they listen more to their artists & writers than before. look to singers they all getting depressions because they need to perform at their best......

Idril In my opinion it is not as simple as let him be. Of course he can spend his time on his own leisure. And certainly he does not own his reader the missing books. But as an avid reader from the beginning and not just from jumping the bandwagon with the HBO series, it is just exhausting to read all the up dates of other books and side projects. I agree, lacking inspiration is very difficult to overcome. But what I miss with GRR Martin is honesty. Perhaps it is not as simple to go public with this, I don't know.......nevertheless his countless promises to finish the series and postpone again and again and again makes it very hard to read about other books he was able to write.

Luis None of these side projects interest me in the least. I gave up waiting long ago and moved on to other authors. And as many have commented before, he's never going to finish this series.

Dead He absolutely can choose to work in Hollywood instead of finish the next installment of his story that fans have waited over a decade for. That is his prerogative. Just don’t be shocked when fans get upset and feel ignored.

I think HBO also took his inspiration because of the bad bad ending of the game of thrones series because officially he told everyone that the ending of the tv show is not the ending he wanted to give the story..............
