I'm a Lambda Literary Finalist!

I've been flying all day because the Lambda Literary Awards announced their finalists, and my poetry book The Horizontal Poet made the cut! I've been invited to read on June 3 at Bi Lines in New York City and to attend the 24th Annual Lambda Literary Awards Ceremony on June 4 at the CUNY Graduate Center (365 Fifth Avenue) with an after-party at Slate (54 West 21st Street).

The Lammies are the most prestigious LGBT writing awards in the U.S.A. I would love to go to the ceremony, but I'm a disabled woman with a small pension, so it's going to be tricky. If I can sell enough copies of my book between now and May, I think I can afford the trip. If you would like to help me get there, you can order signed copies of my poetry book *The Horizontal Poet* (Zeitgeist Press, 2011), one of this year's finalists, by sending $14 + $2 shipping (in U.S.) per copy via PayPal to Jmsteckel at aol dot com, or via check to Jan Steckel, PO Box 18797/Oakland, CA 94619. :)

For more details about the awards and a complete list of categories and finalists, including a lot of great reads, see

Virginia I loved HORIZONTAL POET and still go back and read some of the poems that really rocked me! I hope you WIN!!! Can't wait until your reading next month in Santa Barbara! You're such a trooper, handicaps aside. We've all got them lurking somewhere or other if not apparent already.

Jan Hi Ginny,

You are so kind!!! Thanks for your smiling face and your sweet words. There are a lot of us with "invisible disabilities" out there, aren't there? I hope someday people will just be okay with them, instead of projecting all kinds of meaning on them that they don't really have: reasons for stigma, I mean.

Love,
Jan

Virginia Nobody's perfect! The sooner we realize that, the easier it'll be for everyone, including ourselves! There are perfectionists though, but that's another "invisble disability." I shoulda been a cave woman! :)

Jan LOL :)

Virginia Is your book for sale on Amazon.com? Also, you might ask Suzanne Frost to help you; she works for psychiatrists; maybe they would be supportive of getting you to the Lammies! I'm listening to 80s music; it's so fun! What has happened to all the all-girl bands like the Go Gos, The Supremes, etc?

Jan Thanks for asking, Ginny. It's not up on Amazon yet, but it will be soon. The publisher is going to get everybody's books from the press up there. I LOVED the Go Gos!

Virginia This town is my town...too bad they disbanded, literally. I have a feeling you're going to win! For one thing, your cover is a work of art, very Matisse! You look so classic and classy! I'm waiting on the film and trying to publish TOUCH ME, TOUCH ME NOT online; I'm in the middle of publishing it; it's hard! IBSN numbers and what not. That's okay, the fame and fortune will make it all worth our while! :)
