Today is the 150th anniversary of the execution of GOMBURZA.
Textbook history tells us that Rizal dedicated El Filibusterismo to the three martyred priests. In the original manuscript of the Fili the dedication page (Top)reads:
“Francisco (sic) Gomez (sic), Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora executed on the gallows of Bagumbayan on __February 1872.”
In the printed edition of the Fili, first published in Ghent in 1891, (Bottom) the dedication reads:
“To the memory of the priests Mariano Gome...
