Creating a new comic book part last
I'll wrap this blog on creating a new comic with the announcement that Captain Cannabis No. 3 and companion 420 YOYO, which is what the blog has been about, officially launches Valentine's day, 2022.
This is the third in the on-going series and starts tying together the original Captain Cannabis and 420 storylines. Titled YOYO, the 24 page story picks up from No. 2 with lead character Hal frantically searching for the intragalactic joint to unleash his sensi-super powers. A stoner-friendly 8-page YOYO Player's Guide that goes from Superstoner to Chill with trouble-shooting and a bunch of cool tricks rounds out the 32 page book. with yours truly on story and art.
The 420 YOYO is a 2" wooden ball YOYO with fixed and slip strings. Everything needed to get started is included in the package including 4-pages from the book's Player's Guide (420 YOYO Guide).
The YOYO packaging got super-special treatment. Amazon approached me to join their new Transparency program to protect my Captain Cannabis brand from counterfeits and fraud. It involves putting a unique code (effectively a serial number) on the outside of each package so only products with a valid code pass through their system. I ran with the concept and designed the packaging to be a re-useable collectible so nothing goes to waste.
With the pandemic effectively closing the world for the past 2 years I spent the time really polishing this one spending a year just doing the inking and tones on the artwork. I stayed away from distractions like social media as much as possible to stay focused on doing my best.
I spent years teaching computer sciences and the arts in college as well as writing more than a few user's manuals along the way, so I thought I'd try putting those skills towards doing the YOYO guide as a way to give something back. I focused on making it functional but fun and am very happy with the way it all came together.
