This is such an important concept! I learned about this when I read Richard Bach's "Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah." I won't relate the entire scene, but the conclusion is "Listen, Richard: it's important. We are all. Free. To do. Whatever. We want. To do." The scene includes a discussion of consequences, which is part of what makes it wonderful.
I recently went through a process of choosing a theme word for the year. I came up with "curiosity." I'm a fairly curious person anyway, but I'm explicitly tying it to what you describe above: approaching new experiences with a "let's just try it and see how it goes." I'm focusing on letting curiosity -- and a light-hearted one at that -- washing away fears of failure of an expectation of perfectionism.
