Hi! So, I’m re-reading, and I was wondering, does Voleta (or Thanatos having a lover at all) have any basis in myth or is this simply your own creation?

Nope, Voleta was my own creation.

One of the very few in my books. I like to base most of my characters off mythology since I there are a seeming infinite number of stories to draw from in the Greek mythos. It has a cast of thousands.

As far as Thanatos having lovers, that’s also my unique take. I love Death and the Maiden in western art. And I was trying to drill down the psychology of someone who had to develop coping mechanisms for seeing the process of death near constantly, someone who is loved by his family, someone who is the baby of the family. I used later Roman depictions of Thanatos as a young man, hence the short hair.

And I figured making him a mope-fest about his task didn’t seems like a reasonable response for a millennia-old creature. Unlike Aidoneus, he doesn’t find his happy place in meticulous obsession. He’s not introverted and is largely neurotypical. So I decided to write him as a bit of a hedonist.
