My Author Page!
Hello Friends,
Welcome to my blog, featuring info for "Richie the Caseworker," my debut novel from Faraxa Publishing, due out in Spring 2022!
Richie the Caseworker tells the tale of twenty-something Richie McGinn, a Yankees superfan living in the working-class suburb of Yonkers, NY. It’s 1995, and he’s a recent college grad with no plan in life. He lives with the only family he has: his older brother Pat, a successful banker with a bright future. He’s working as a pizza guy when he gets a call to deliver to a homeless shelter in a bucolic section of Westchester County. Before he knows it, he’s asked to take a temp job as a caseworker, even though he hasn’t a drop of experience. He stumbles and flubs through the job, but he gets a lot of support and encouragement from his co-workers – and from one in particular.
All this time he’s trying to see his boyhood hero, aging Yankee captain Don Mattingly, finally get to his first playoff game. He and Pat were cruelly denied World Series tickets fourteen years earlier, so this would be their first playoff, too. But Pat might be moving away with his girlfriend, Richie’s job gets more confusing and frustrating, and the Yankees slump their way through the summer. Will Richie overcome these challenges, find his path in life, and see Donnie Baseball make it to the dance – maybe for the last time?
I’m very excited to present this coming-of-age story I wrote at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. I can’t cook, paint, or play an instrument, so one day I plopped down at the dining room table, called it my “office,” and hammered away on my laptop. It’s based on an idea I’d had about a dozen years ago, pulling together some experiences I had in the social work field in the mid-90s.

I look forward to hearing from you!
