Friday Five

First the good news. My illustrator sent me some proofs on the new cover to EARRINGS OF IXTUMEA! Let's just say I'm excited. She totally 'got' Lupe and the cover reflects both worlds.

Yay!

The other news isn't that great but I'm taking it as a learning moment and moving on.

Now back to my book reads.

1. Okay, this totally surprised me. My ten-year-old son told me his friends at the satellite school are all into HUNGER GAMES and asked if he could read it too. I was very hesitant as I remember how graphic and violent the series is. **The whole premise of teens killing teens in a futuristic Survivor game is disturbing. Then husband tells me he wants to read the book too. Talk about how media can put a buzz out there.

So:

Yes, we're reading HUNGER GAMES and discussing it. Interesting to hear son's point of view of the book. Getting lots of questions from why is there a reaping, no-one's really going to die as no one does in Disney movies(had to tell son this wasn't a Disney movie and yes people will die), and why did they have to pick Peeta? **That was after reading how Katniss first 'met' Peeta. So far he's really enjoying this story and isn't too happy when I stop reading. Got to love that.
**Warning, yes this story has some very disturbing themes but husband and I think it's good to read this book together with son and if he has questions, concerns we can address them. This might not work with others, but it's working so far for us.

Also purchased:

And today on Twitter, @Scholasticstore was offering the mockingjay pins for sale:

They're $12.95. Still deciding on this one.

2. Also reading BURIED:

Really enjoying this spin-off mystery with my favorite Goth girl Thorn who's a Finder, someone who can sense objects. Love the voice, feel, and dialogue. A must-read.

3. Got approved to read/review this:

Don't you just love the cover? The girl totally reflects the Asian heroine in this book, who is like my son said, "Kind of like a cat whisperer." She can speak with cats and ends up going on an adventure. Can't wait to read more!

4. Finished reading:

Ok, Alex Flinn is the queen of putting twists on classic fairy tales. In this one it's a twist of a few which include The Princess and the Frog. Fab voice. I was giggling over some of the dialogue. Did I mention how much I love Alex Flinn? And yes, she's one of Joyce Sweeney's students too.

5. Found this which is my vision of Jorge in my sekrit project:

Is he not nom worthy?

**Guilty pleasure:

Going to the Irvine Spectrum and visiting my new favorite skin store: Skin Food.

This soap doesn't have all those nasty parabens(which I'm allergic to) and still smells yummy.
