PROMOTE OR WRITE, THAT IS THE QUESTION
As an Indie author, not only am I in charge of every aspect of my book from beginning to end, I'm also in charge of my own marketing as well.
I think I have lost perspective on what it is that I am supposed to be doing--WRITING! After all, I am a writer first and foremost. After I finished writing TIES, I didn't move on to write book 2. Instead, I starting promoting that book, and some where in the process I got caught up in all the reviews, interviews and guest posts. Before I knew it, I had stopped writing all together ... BIG MISTAKE.
So here it is March and book 2 should have been out last month so why isn't it out, you ask? Because I got caught up in trying to make sure book 1 was successful. Now, everyone is impatiently awaiting the arrival of book 2 and I don't have it ready. Actually, it is far from ready- and I apologize for that.
I am going to put book 1 in KDP's select for 90 days, and I'm going to do nothing but write for that time. Who knows what will happen? I do know this: You can write the best book of all time, but unless you get lucky somehow it's not going to make it big.
Every successful author I have spoken with says the same thing. BACK LIST SELLS. And I am lacking a back list so I better get busy.
