Character Actor Richard Deacon was Gay and in the Closet

I think Richard Deacon is best known for his role in The Dick Van Dyke Show in the early 1960s. He played many other parts during his lifetime, including Fred Rutherford on Leave it to Beaver, but when I think of Deacon I think of Mel from Dick Van Dyke's show. 

With that said, he wasn't someone you'd wonder about. He looked straight, he played straight parts, and I was surprised to learn that he was gay. I don't think anyone would have gues...
