Why this matters to me.
Growing up, I was not a popular kid and I didn't really fit in. We didn't have much money, and I felt like I didn't fit into the horse world. On top of that, I was fat and gay. Now as an adult, the importance of children having access to inclusive representation is very clear. Seeing positive portrays of different races, sexualities, identities, cultures... it matters. Familiarity normalizes diversity at a young age and gives a positive association to those who identify with it, It is my sincere hope that these books will end up in libraries, schools, and homes.
Thank you for supporting inclusion, Lack of empathy is a real issue in our modern times. I don't have delusions that this book will change the world. Honestly, if one person thinks abut how their horse may feel before acting, or makes one child with dreams of ponies feel just a little bit better... then it was absolutely worth the effort. Looking forward to the next two books. They are different stories but this series continues the theme of little lessons,
I was really nervous to put this out for the world to criticize, and I know there are mistakes that I can correct next time. There was a post I read somewhere that said, the first time you do anything sucks- so just do it. You'll get better. I thought, why not me?
Why not you? Life is short. Take a chance.
