Fulk became associated with the Knights Templar during his crusade to the Holy Land in 1121. Soon after his return to Anjou, which was before the Catholic Church's official recognition and sanction of the order, he began to subsidize the Templar activities by funding two knights in the Holy Land for a year.

With his marriage to Melisende of Jerusalem, he started a lineage of Latin Kings of Jerusalem that reigned for nearly 200 years.

There's no question that he and the Knights Templar rescued Christianity from extinction in the Holy Land. We can only speculate what would have occurred to the religion without their sacrifice and bravery in the name of God. Certainly, the Holy Relics of Jerusalem would have been destroyed at the very least had they not prevailed against the infidels. And there's no question that most if not all the Jewish inhabitants would have been put to death, had The Order failed to drive them out of the region.

Richard Warren (1580 - 1628), Fulk's direct descendant, was one of the cosigners of the Mayflower Compact.
