As someone who’s lived in more than one place where the language they speak is not my own, I know - and I say this as an incredibly privileged anglophone in a world where English dominates as a business language and therefore is almost ubiquitous - it’s f-ing hard to get up the courage to speak when you know you won’t be perfect and you still want to be taken seriously and treated with respect and like an adult who has competences and a history even if they happened in another language.
