American Rogers eliminates Barty and leaves the US Open without number one
A big surprise jumped on Saturday night at Arthur Ashe’s center court by eliminating the number one favorite at the United States Open, Australian Ashleigh Barty, who lost 6-2, 1-6 and 7-6 (5) in three sets ahead of local tennis player Shelby Rogers, 43rd in the world.
The 28-year-old Rogers, who is playing his eighth Open, went into the knockout phase for the second time in a row after reaching his best qualification last year by qualifying for the quarterfinals.
