Eva’s Byte #331 – On the Fritz
They don’t make them like they used to:
My upright oscillating fan which I use to keep cool when taking a morning jaunt on my elliptical trainer went on the fritz this week. It didn’t last more than a year.
After emitting a sound resembling a playing card slapping the spokes on a bicycle wheel, the motor burned out, surrendering silence. Fortunately, as the summer season comes to a close, I was able to snag one of the last two upright fans available at Walmart. Thanks to a You Tube instructional video, I assembled it through a couple of trial-and-error attempts because one part didn’t fit snugly as led to believe.
The next day, my desk lamp of less than six month’s duration went on the fritz. At first I changed the bulb, thinking it was the culprit, but that didn’t seem to be the case. I made another trip to Walmart to purchase a replacement. Not so simple. While I had several to choose from on the shelf, the models were either clamp-on or USB-powered desk lamps. I ended up acquiring a single-head cylinder, spot lamp.
If I thought inserting the brand new bulb I tried in the old lamp was going to work—wrong. I then plugged the wire of the spot lamp into a different outlet. That didn’t work either. Could it be the brand new bulb was on the fritz? Apparently, because I inserted another, and the lamp lit. I also tried that same working bulb in the old lamp, but it had definitely given up the ghost.
In my capacity of a writer, I have finished the first round of proofreading/editing/revising for my Contemporary. The second rounds are on tap. Barring any pesky oversights, I’m of the mindset—if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
*When broken things are beyond our repair, may each of us make do the best way we can.
My sincere appreciation if you’ve read this far.
