August 31, 2021: The Sliding Scale of Moral Outrage

I am constantly amazed by individuals who are quick to call out the ineptitude and wrongdoing of others, especially politicians, yet will excuse, defend or simply ignore incompetence and misconduct when it’s “their guy”.  I mean, I have nothing but sympathy for the partisan hacks who can only view right and wrong through the myopic lens of party affiliation.  Pity those who take offense to some shitty behavior and compose a lengthy critique only to realize too late that the transgressor is someone they publicly supported.  At which point it’s “Well, it isn’t THAT bad.” or “Yeah, but the other guy…” or “In retrospect, this is something I can really get behind.”  The bullshit hypocrisy and sanctimonious outrage shtick (Because that’s all it is really, just insubstantial camp.) is so transparent and, frankly, annoying that it merits an automatic unfollow and/or block.

As of today, I am done.

Today’s Yes/No. If your sense of right and wrong and moral indignation exists on some sliding scale weighted by blind political devotion, you have approximately zero credibility and should just pack it in.
