
I have always found the Narcissus myth baffling. I mean, what kind of man cares about, let alone falls in love with, his own beauty the way Narcissus did?
A strong streak of effeminacy permeates the whole story - I believe
Gyula Benczúr captured this streak rather well in his own take on the mythical character.
