An Invitation to Spend a Day with Jesus
My servant, David, wrote, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6). How will this happen? What part will you play in dwelling with me and living our days together so that goodness and mercy will follow behind you?
Let’s make this idea of living a ‘life without lack’ a reality. Let’s, you and I, plan to spend a day together. This will not be a day where you go away with me on a retreat. It will be a day where you invite me to be with you throughout your normal day.
My word for you in the Shepherd’s Psalm is that I am with you. Your life without lack will flow from your relationship with me. Your challenge is to stay with me, trusting that I truly desire to be with you. I want to be with you. This is true. I assure you it’s true. It is the testimony of all my servants who have written down my words, from the beginning to the end. Remember my instruction:
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5-6)
Don’t covet; be content with what you have. Your freedom from the frantic desire to have — is grounded in my promise to never leave you. Whatever you have or do not have makes no difference because you are with me. I will provide you with everything you need, and this allows you to be content.
Yet my promise is only true for those who trust me; those who desire to be with me and to be about my business. I want you to understand what my business is. It is not some exclusive category of “ministry” that only a select group of seminarians can take part in. Of course, I do not exclude them, but their religious training can sometimes crowd out the things you really need to know in order to live with me and help others to do likewise.
Shortly before I departed earth, I gave this commission to my apprentices: Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20)
So take my promises with you. I give them to those who are walking my path with me and who have decided to do what I say to do. Always keep this in mind: I don’t exclude anybody. Everybody is included. I invite every person – and that includes you – to be with me. And when you are with me, and trust in me, I will take care of everything. You will find a life worth living, a life without lack.
