Just finished reading "The Second Kind of Impossible" by Paul J. Steinhardt, published by Simon & Schuster in 2019.
Quasicrystals were once regulated to the realm of "scientific fantasy" when Paul J. Steinhardt first became intrigued by their possibility as artificially constructed and naturally occurring crystals about 40-years-ago, he was advised by his peers not to pursue this "scientific fantasy." Thankfully he ignored this advice to play it safe and with his fellow researchers, embarked on a voyage of discovery that culminated in the discovery of meteorites from deep space containing quasicrystals.
A very enjoyable history of how a new form of mater was conceived and discovered.
Highly Recommended!
