BOOK REVIEW: Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda ~ The Cutest Summer Read EVER! *SPOILER FREE*
“People really are like house with vast rooms and tiny windows. And maybe it’s a good thing, the way we never stop surprising each other.”
~ Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda (Creekwood, #1), by Becky Albertalli
Hello awesome nerds, happy Thursday everyone and welcome back to another book review.
And if there’s one review that I had to write after my blogging break, that is for the amazing Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda, the first book in the Creekwood series, by Becky Albertalli.

“Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.
With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.”
To me, Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda was simply a book that could be summarised as such:
“Cuteness overload to the point that this book made me say “awww” multiple times.”
Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda was the perfect summer read, full of love, friendship, drama and Oreo! I mean, come on! Is there anyone out there who doesn’t love Oreo?
I loved the fact that, probably for the first time ever, I read a pride-related book shortly after Pride month and things felt so relevant that I truly enjoyed it to the fullest!
I loved the writing style, the pacing of the book, the emails that seemed like actual chapters and the fact that Simon’s coming out escalated beautifully, despite the fact that Martin was practically blackmailing him for the better part of the book.
At this point, I just want to say that, nobody, NOBODY, should have the right to blackmail you, bully you or treat you in a way that’s not the one you want. You should always know your worth and you should never let anyone make you believe you’re worthy of anything less.

“I like no endings. I like things that don’t end.”
~ Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda (Creekwood, #1), by Becky Albertalli
To be honest, even though I had watched the movie, Becky Albertalli made sure we wouldn’t find who Blue was as easily as some thought, and I truly appreciated that. It was nice to keep reading and learning more about the characters, to keep guessing and questioning whether your guesses were right or wrong.
And in the end, it was nice to see that being true and honest to yourself is always the best policy.
I highly suggest you pick up this book. It’s cute and with some great life-lessons, plus it’s perfect for summertime.
To me, it’s an anthem to embracing who you are, accepting your self, both with your strengths, but most importantly your insecurities, and knowing that, those who love you, truly love you, will always be there for you!
“Why is straight the default? Everyone should have to declare one way or another, and it shouldn’t be this big awkward thing whether you’re straight, gay, bi, or whatever. I’m just saying.”
