Book Recommendations from Lockdown

  Dear Friends,
It was terrific to have Kathryn Heyman as my guest on Thursday Book Club last week. Congratulations to Lee who won the night's raffle.

This month's guest is Meredith Jaffé who was to have joined us in June but who fell ill and was rendered (literally) speechless a couple of days beforehand.  I'm looking forward to chatting with Meredith on Thursday 26 August.

Last week was an exciting one for Thursday Book Club regular, Greg Woodland, whose novel The Night Whistler has been shortlisted for the Ned Kelly Awards. Congratulations Greg!  Scroll down for the full list below.

I'm delighted to announce a partnership between Thursday Book Club and Abbey's Bookshop.  Abbey's is a terrific book shop in the middle of the Sydney CBD with a great list of fiction and non-fiction titles and an excellent foreign language section. I'm in a French book club and over the years, it's been great to be able to source French titles from Abbey's.

Each week, Craig Kirchner and other booksellers from Abbey's will be recommending their pick of new Australian releases. Scroll down to see this week's recommendation. To receive a 15% discount on Abbey's new release recommendations, our guest authors' books and my books, just add the code THURSDAYBOOKCLUB at the checkout for Abbey's online store.

Hope you can join me at Thursday Book Club this week.  Here's the link to join us: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/8521042343

I'll look forward to seeing you. NEW RELEASE RECOMMENDATION

CATCH US THE FOXES by Nicola West

https://www.abbeys.com.au/book/catch-us-the-foxes-9781760857479.do
ABBEY'S BOOKSELLER PICK ----- Nicola West's dark tale is set in the sparkling coastal town of Kiama, not too far south of Sydney, yet the townsfolk may not be enjoying their literary moment given the portrayal here. Then again, maybe they'll love it!

The youthful protagonist of Marlowe (just out of uni) is full of barely contained energy, which is a change-up from old cops, lawyers & journos with complicated pasts.

The story moves fast as she gets drawn deeper into unravelling the mystery surrounding the murder of her friend, Lily, and the quandary of who to trust - even herself - makes this an enjoyable and engrossing read. Craig Kirchner

Enter the code THURSDAYBOOKCLUB at the checkout for a 15% discount on Abbey's new release recommendations. This code will also get you a 15% discount on the books by my guests on Thursday Book Club and my latest novels, The Teacher's Secret and The Deceptions.
