It’s hard to do justice to this incredible book, but I will try. First, it should be judged on why it was written- to increase people’s faith. Far and away on that criteria alone, this book is a runaway success. Coupled with intriguing characters and imaginative plot lines this book deserves to be spoken almost on a par with the greats of this genre... Tolkien and Lewis.

This book reminded me of the Book of Jeremiah in the OT. He struggled but God always had his back. And he did end up having a few friends stand by his side as well. Would highly recommend.

I will be honest, I resisted reading this book for a long time. I don’t do zombies (like REALLY don’t do zombies), but after hearing more and more good things about the book I decided to give it a chance. I’m glad I did.
I loved the characters, the tone, the dialog (Duamé is awesome), and yes, even the conflict (although I will admit to approaching the battle sequences through the reading equivalent of putting your hands over your eyes and peeking through the fingers). Rock-hard Scriptural truths lay the foundation of it all, presented in a way that doesn’t feel preachy at all.
The book is rich with description. Some may find it too much, but I’ve come to expect detailed world-building in the fantasy genre, especially when the book is first in a series.
I feel the author's writing is very strong overall, so the few typos and places of telling didn't sway me too much.
The bottom line is I think this is a 5-star story, and you don’t want to miss it.
Thank you so much for the humbling reviews!
