I Will Never Move Again. Ever.

So, it's been a minute since I last made a blog post. In a nutshell, here's why:

1. Titanic-sized Day Job project (complete with a few disasters, but we all survived)
2. MAJOR book stuff (more on that in a sec)
3. I, uh, moved without intending to.

About that third thing. There is this house that's very near to where I lived that the Mr. and I have always swooned over. It's gorrrrrrrgeous. Of course, when we moved to our town, it was firmly not on the market. But the Mr. always said, "If that house ever goes up for sale, we're going to buy it." And I laughed, because it is SO close to the other place that it seemed crazy.

You get where I'm going here, right?

At the end of April, The House went on the market. And I just so happened to be running by EXACTLY as the agent was putting up the sign. So I texted the Mr. and said "Haha, your house is for sale."

And we went and looked at it. And we fell in looooove with it. And we have a rock star agent of our own who made unicorn magic happen...

And we bought the house, sold our other house, and moved in two weeks ago.

I am here to tell you that unexpectedly moving is a lot. There were tears. There were sore muscles. There were trips to the dump. Trips to Goodwill. More trips to the dump. But slowly, slowly, we got the boxes packed, moved, and unpacked (all in the midst of That Massive Day Job Project, during which I worked 12-hour days for about a month). We are over the moon thrilled with the new house, and the teens and the pups are all adjusting happily.

I did bump the re-release of the Cross Creek books (remember, we going to talk about that book stuff) from July to August because of all the insanity, but you can look for those on August 3. Each book will get a super fun new epilogue, as well as a sexy new cover. We'll talk all about those in my very next post.

But, in the meantime, tell me! Have you ever moved? And how did it go? Was it local, like mine, or did you go far? And did you take a lot of trips to the dump, too (was that just me?!) Tell all, my reader darlings!

Kelly My Dad was in the Air Force, so we moved a LOT when I was a kid. In fact, by the time I graduated high school I had gone to 13 different schools! My Dad retired from the Air Force when I graduated 7 grade and we moved to Iowa that summer, so my last three schools were all in Clinton. I, myself have moved a few times as an adult, the last time almost four years ago. That one was basically around the corner from where I was. LOL So much stuff to throw out... lol

We got rid of SO much! We were able to repurpose a lot, for which I was grateful (gave away furniture and empty moving boxes to those who needed them, etc.) but some things simply needed to be purged. I feel so much better having done it, but it was a SLOG! :)

Oh, how awful that someone helped themselves! We still have a pair of scissors (our favorite pair, that came in the butcher block of knives) and my eyelash curler that are MIA (weird, right?!) but those will turn up somewhere...I hope!

Lori Allensworth 7x as a kid, 11x as an adult, I'm currently getting ready to move for the 12th time. This will be a big purge, from 1700 sq ft to 400 sq ft, my choice but a lot of work to get there.

Kathleen I have moved a few times and I do not like it. My current home I have been in for 19 yrs this September and I hope I don't have to move for a long time. But I never say never. I am starting to purge a lot now, because I want to have a chance to give somethings to my nieces for their future homes.

Angie My dad was in the army when I was growing up, so even though I didn’t have to do anything for most of them, I’ve moved a total of 15 times that I know of in my life. Eleven were from birth until I first moved out as an adult, then the other 4 were to my first shared apartment, to a small cottage on my own, in with my now ex 100 miles away, and finally back home to move into my grandparents’ former home. And unless I go into a nursing home or I somehow get my tiny house, I really hope this is the end of the line!!
