The Power of One

I had a dream the other day that I was in a hallway outside an auditorium, waiting to speak about my book. As I was about to go on stage, an announcement was made that I would be the only speaker that day. When the announcement was finished, some people got up to leave. More people joined them, and suddenly the entire auditorium of people was vacating.

Defeated, I fell to the ground in the hallway. I lost hope. Everything I had done was for nothing. But then a young woman came back and asked if I was still going to speak. I regained a sense of purpose and went out on stage. I then spoke about my book to an audience of one. The only person who was left was the young woman who wanted to hear what I had to say.

After I woke up I was saddened by my dream. I thought about it as the morning progressed, and I realized that my dream was not about me as the speaker, but about the young woman as the listener. She alone had the ability to give me back my hope. I was rejected by a room full of people, but one person was able to negate that.

It was the one woman in my dream who made me realize that it only takes one person to give hope to people who have been brought down by the rest of the world; by the rest of life. I should strive to be that person.
