Endless

When I first encountered the László Mednyánszky landscape called "Endless", I found it rather bland and off-putting in comparison to the Wandering Baron's other landscapes, most of which literally crackle with light. The drab color scheme in this one reminds me of mold and algae. They odd greenish haze muting the sun remains a mystery to me.

Nevertheless, the more I look at it, the more I enjoy this peculiar landscape. It would be a stretch to say that I really like it or admire it, but there is something intriguingly soothing about the two figures standing on the lake shore before the blurred highland swells in the background. Not a great landscape, but still a somewhat evocative mood piece.   Picture
