Book Series Highlight #3

[image error] Beautiful Creatures by Stohl/Garcia

Here is another book series highlight from one of my favorites! Now this one is a little different for me. You know when you read a book when you’re younger and then you read it again a few years later, one of two things happen: You either fall in love with it more and appreciate more than just the story or you’re like, “Whaaaaaaat did I see in this?” I was the Whaaaaaaat option, but I still love the series. It’s a good read no matter what. It’s that Dark, gothic kind of story with spells and curses alike! Let’s dive right in!

Beautiful Creatures starts off in a small Southern town called Gatlin. Now we all know or have heard of these towns with the nosy neighbors, strong religious folk, natural southern charm and where everybody knows everybody’s business. This is what Gatlin is. Ethan Wate is not like the others. He dreams of going to New York after high school or somewhere far away as long as it’s not in Gatlin. Then here comes Lena Duchannes, a weird girl who’s uncle is the town shut-in. Immediately Ethan is intrigued, but not because she’s different. No, he’s interested because she’s the girl of his dreams. Literally! Lena tries to keep her secrets tied down, but nothing can stay a secret in this small town.

The books that follow pull Ethan down into a Supernatural world with dark enemies, old foes and new loves. I don’t want to get too much into detail about them because I feel like I’m going to be giving away too many spoilers. It just keeps you hooked where you’re not able to put the book down.

I love how it was an urban, gothic tale and the setting that Garcia and Stohl created made it feel like you were really in the book. This was an interesting read that I immediately fell in love with when I first read it when I was sixteen. Now that I read it ten years later, there is some stuff where I’m like, “Eh…teenagers…” but that was to be expected, right?

I think this series would be a great read for the summer if you’re looking to get lost into a supernatural read!
