10 useful Korean words that have repeated syllables



쌀쌀하다: to be chilly
한국은 이제 봄이에요. 그래도 아침에는 여전히 조금 쌀쌀해요.
It’s spring in Korea. It’s still chilly in the mornings, though.

넉넉하다[넝너카다]: to be enough, to be plenty
그 정도면 아주 넉넉할 거 같아요.
I think that’ll be quite enough.

출출하다: to be slightly hungry
좀 출출하다.
I’m a little hungry.

딱딱하다[딱따카다]: to be hard, to be solid
근데 조금 딱딱해요.
But they are kind of hard.

평평하다: to be flat
평평하다? 저 발 평평해요!
Flat? My feet are flat.

똑똑하다[똑또카다]: to be smart
오늘 레슨 저 다 이해하고 있어요. 똑똑하죠?
I’m understanding everything in your lesson today. I’m smart, right?

심심하다: to be bored
촬영 언제 끝나요? 너무 심심해요.
When are you going to finish filming? I’m so bored.

답답하다[답따파다]: to be stuffy, to be frustrated
근데 여기 좀 답답해요. 창문 좀 열어도 돼요?
It’s a bit stuffy in here. Can I open the window?

쨍쨍하다: (sun) to be shining, to beat down
와. 진짜 쨍쨍하다.
Oh. It’s really beating down.

깜깜하다: to be very dark
근데 왜 여기 이렇게 깜깜해요?
By the way, why is it so dark in here?
