Writing Tip #5

I can’t stress this enough….DON’T LET ANYONE MAKE YOU FEEL LOUSY ABOUT YOUR ART!

Okay, I’m glad I got that out of the way, now, here is a little writing advice: If you love to write, then write. There are always going to be haters, people who say that your work sucks or that it’s just not good enough. Don’t let that discourage you. Brush that hater dust off, pick up your pen and keep going. And this is for all artists out there! If you love to sing or paint or dance, then do it!

I have gotten some feedback about my book, A Devil’s Deal, especially when I promote it on social media. People have commented saying, “What in the hell would I gain from reading that?” or, my favorite, “That doesn’t sound good at all.” You know what I do?

Nothing.

It’s your art. I understand you wanting to defend it, but news flash! The haters are always going to be there. There is always going to be some negative person who will try to bring you down. Don’t even give these people the time of day. You’re better than that. If you feed into that negative energy, it will take you away from what really matters. Your art.

So brush those haters away and focus on the ones who do love your work, who appreciate what you do. In the end, those who truly matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.
