Against The Rest Of The World“Then snap out of it,” Mycroft says briskly, not unkindly. “I don’t know what it is, but you must turn a blind eye to it and do your work.”
(I needed someone to say this for me today!)

This post Reichenbach au, coming home/reunion story is one of my absolute favorites. I’m re-reading it for the umphest time. The way it describes just how dangerous Sherlock’s life was when away, how anxious and scared and lonely he was. His first days back in London, trying to finish the mission. His first encounter with a John that has moved on—but not quite. The adventures they go through, and the feelings that re-surface, never really put away to begin with! I can’t put my thoughts in words well enough to honour the story and the extraordinarily talented author that brought this and so many other stories to fandom, @silentauroriamthereal .Thank you so much. This story is what S3 should have been! ❤️❤️
Omg wow! Thank you so much for this, @jobooksncoffee!!! Thank you for reading and talking about my baby! I’m beyond moved by what you’ve said about it! Technically (if you’ll permit me the quibble, haha!) this isn’t an AU; it was simply written before series 3 aired. As in RIGHT before. As in, I posted the final chapter two days before Many Happy Returns aired, lol! It’s only an AU if it diverges from the known canon deliberately, which I pride myself on never doing. 😁
I lived and breathed this story every single day for four straight months, literally writing it every day. Sherlock’s first person inner monologue, which forms the narrative, became my inner monologue. I was updating on average once every six days, and a couple of the chapters are over 10,000 words. This is also the story that convinced me to never again post a work-in-progress while still in progress, lol - the pressure is just so huge!! I’ve posted other stories in pieces before, but they’re always complete from the time I post the first chunk now. 😛 But yeah, at the time in the fandom, there were a lot of Reichenbach Return stories (some very good ones indeed!) that focused primarily on John’s experience of things, on John’s reaction and John’s pain, and I kept going, “Okay, but what about Sherlock? We all know he was blackmailed into this, right?? What about his side of things? What about his story of how these years went? What even happened to him?” So I decided to try to fill in that gap (as I saw it, at least) with answers of my own.
Anyway, I’m rambling! This is all just to say that this story, only the 8th in my catalogue of now 89 stories in this fandom (omg how did that even happen??), is still massively important to me. My original novel is based largely on this, with chunks of and diversions from Vena Cava, too. It absolutely makes my day whenever someone discovers it and decides to read it, and better still, likes it! Thank you so much for all of this! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
