Promises, Promises

I promised to keep you up-to-date with my work in progress, so here’s a bit of an update. (It’s all right, I also know that most of you don’t know of my promise, and others will have forgotten. I probably could have got away with keeping my mouth shut.)

Title – Um... still thinking
Number of words written in first draft so far – Just over 49,000
Genre – Not telling
Is it going to plan? – Ahem ... I blame the characters. They’re supposed to be horrified at the situation they find themselves in but they’re not. They love it. They outfox me every time. So I decided to throw even more obstacles in their way. A flood maybe? Homeless? Snigger, snigger.
Is there some romance? – Two are up and running, but the others are driving me potty.
Where is it set? – London, England
Is Parson Raffles in it? – He shouldn’t be.
A villain? Is there a villain? – Whatever do you want a villain for? There’s a squirrel. OK, OK, yes there’s a villain.

More news to follow and I promise it will be before the next millennium.

Another little promise I made early in my blogging life was to mention three of my author blog readers’ books in my latest. It was a case of first come first served and I have now mentioned all three.

Sage Saying: It’s not the hours you put in that counts, it’s what you put in the hours.
Handy Hint: To avoid a bathroom full of steam, run cold water into the bath before the hot.
Jolly Joke: Q. Why do gorillas have big nostrils?
A. Because they have big fingers. (Sorry...)

June’s bargain book:

Anna Faversham Gee, Gail, you're on the ball. I've only just put that up!

Kathleen Buckley Great blog and I can't wait for your next book. I'm about 50,000 into my next--shall we race?

message 3: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham Shriek! A race? But I'm wearing clogs.

message 4: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Buckley And I've got plantar fasciitis.

Anna Faversham So we'll hobble along towards the finishing line together - two tortoises and no hares.

message 6: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Buckley That might be us.

message 7: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham I once had a tortoise and he was a great little fella, so let's get these books written slowly but very surely, just like Totty! Don't anybody dare say that rhymes with 'potty'.

message 8: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Buckley Yes, I agree. While I'd like to write faster, I don't yearn* to turn out two or three a year.

Walker It sounds as though it will be rather delightful and intriguing.

Anna Faversham I'll do my best!

message 11: by Rick (new)

Rick Norris That is good to hear about your steady progress, Anna. I know it is hard and I am new to this game. I am trying get back to my regiment of one scene a day (1,000-1,500 words). I got sidetracked because I am working on getting the latest book out, End of the Beginning, which has five songs. Three songs are recorded, one in production, and one just written. So, my books, which have music, cuts into my writing time. I think I can manage both, but have to ramp up my discipline. Keep plugging away, Anna, I enjoyed your One Stolen Kiss book.

Anna Faversham Hi Rick and thanks for your encouragement - yes, you telling me that you try for 1,000 to 1,500 words a day does encourage me - to do the same.

Ah... the sidetracking... both writers and readers know all about this little game. Yet, in your case, it is essential to the whole.
